Ogun Customs Hand Over 319 Sacks,572 Wraps Of Cannabis Sativa Worth N103.5 Million To NDLEA

Ogun Area 1 Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) on Monday in Abeokuta, handed over 319 sacks,476 wraps book size and 96 wraps Coconut size of Cannabis Sativa intercepted by its operatives to the state command of the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

The contraband, according to the Controller of the Command, Comptroller Bamidele Makinde, worth Duty Payable Value (DPV) of N120, 848, 768.

Before handing the Cannabis Sativa to NDLEA Commander,Ishaku Yusuf Kwajafa ,officials of NDLEA subjected it to a test before newsmen using the United Nation's testing kits to ascertain its originality.

Speaking during the handing over of the substances, which held within the Service's premises in Abeokuta, Customs Controller of Ogun Area 1 Command, Comptroller Makinde Bamidele said the handing over was done in line with the existing respect for each agency's statutory functions, as well as to further strengthen the synergy between NCS and the NDLEA.

Makinde explained that before handing over of the seizure approval  has been given by the Controller General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Col. Ahmed Ali.

In his comment after taking possession of the Cannabis Sativa, NDLEA Commander in Ogun, Kwajafa, who appreciated the seizure, said without the assistance of the NCS' operatives, Ogun State would have been witnessing "serious crisis" should the contraband have found its way into the society.

While commending the Ogun command of NCS, Kwajafa said NDLEA would continue to value the existing cooperation between the two agencies so as to spur the Customs
