The Ogun Area 1 Command of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has impounded a total of 11, 358 bags of foreign parboiled rice and 1,550 used tyres within the period of three months.
The Controller of the Command, Comptroller Bamidele Makinde disclosed this on Friday while briefing Journalists on the activities of his Command tagged "Scorecard of the Command for the third quarter of 2022 fiscal year"at Idiroko border in Ogun State officers

According to him,180 bales of secondhand clothing were evacuated from a warehouse situated along the Lagos - Ibadan expressway in Ogun State.
He said that, all the Command operations were made possible through the intelligence gathering by command's anti smuggling operatives and without any casualties.
Some seized kegs of petroleum.
Makinde said if all the impounded bags of rice were allowed into Nigeria markets, it would be deserious to Federal Government Agric policy.
Controller Makinde also gave the total Duty Payable Value (DPV) of the contraband as over N341 Million, with the sum of over N38. 5 Million being an amount generated as revenue for the 3rd quarter of year 2022.

Asked to know if he has curbed smuggling activities finally in Ogun State, Makinde, said no, smuggling can not be totally stopped but expressed satisfaction that it has been drastically reduced with a promise not to relent in his efforts in other to achieve the Federal Government targeted aims of fighting smuggling to the bearest minimum.
"Smuggling activities in the command during the past nine months has been reduced and the success recorded by NSC is due to stakeholders's engagement and spirit of patriotism deployed by the NCS personnel in the discharge of their duties for the economic development and security of their fatherland.
"We were able to achieve this feat with the effective use of intelligence. Recalcitrant smugglers should therefore, note that the command, through shrewd, intensive and choking anti-smuggling activities, driven by effective employment of timeous intelligence is all out for them.
"It is important to note that activities embarked upon by the command are driven by patriotism for the economic development and security of the nation. Nigeria Customs Service operatives, mindful of the rules of engagement, will continue to carry out their legitimate duties as prescribed by the law". Makinde declared.
Other contrabands, seized during the period under review according to the Controller, included 67, 650 liters of Petroleum Motor Spirit (PMS) popularly referred to as petroleum, packed in 2, 706 kegs; 20 wraps of weeds suspected to be Indian Hemp (cannabis sativa), as well as 80 kegs of vegetable oil, packed in 25 litre size jerrican

The Controller as well said that,16 units of vehicles used as means of conveyance,79 sack of used shoes,89 Bales of Textile (Wrapper) ,17 Cartons of imported Tomato paste and 5 Cartons of imported Spaghetti pasta among many others were also seized by his Command.
